The Reading Festival was originated from the National Jazz Festival before reaching its permanent position at Reading in the year 1971. Festival Republic runs this festival and from 1998 to 2007, the festival was promoted as the Carling Weekend. Today, it is recognised with its original name and it is seldom recognised with its other names. The reason is that in November 2007, the organisers of the festival felt the need to promote the event with its prestigious name after the end of the 9 year sponsorship. From its earlier years to present, this old musical festival has really earned a good reputation and support of the visitors. The capacity of the Reading Site in 2007 was 80,000 and it is expected that the Reading Festival 2009 is going to be attended by 70,000 individuals every day. The prices of the tickets for Reading festival vary and depend upon whether they are the Day tickets or the weekend tickets. Camping opportunities are also provided at the site which enhances the fun of the festival by many folds. Therefore, today this festival has become one of the oldest and the biggest musical festivals in the world, and thousands of people come to enjoy this event.
